Bye, bye Erdbeerhaut – so wirst du die roten Pünktchen endlich los

Bye bye strawberry legs - how to finally get rid of those little red bumps!

Sommer, sun... strawberry legs?

You probably know this: As soon as it gets warm, and we look forward to sexy shorts and cute skirts, we face a problem. Annoying little red bumps on our legs and arms, also known as "strawberry skin." They're mostly harmless, but still make us feel uncomfortable. Yet, it doesn't have to be that way. Today, we'll tell you how to finally get rid of your strawberry skin with a few simple tricks.

This is how strawberry skin develops

What is colloquially called "strawberry skin" is medically known as a form of keratosis pilaris. This is a common skin condition in which hair follicles become clogged, likely due to an excessive buildup of keratin, a protein present in that area. This can lead to the formation of small red dots and bumps, especially on the legs and arms. Improper skincare, shaving, as well as excessive sweating and genetic factors all play a role in whether one is prone to strawberry skin or not.

Here are our 6 pro tips against strawberry skin:

1. Be gentle: Use skin care for sensitive skin

When it comes to shower gel, body lotion, and the like, be sure to pay attention to the ingredients and use only mild, natural care products. Harsh cleansing dries out your skin and irritates the hair follicles. Additionally, avoid excessive scrubbing or rubbing of the affected skin areas. It's best to pat your skin dry instead of vigorously rubbing it. Bathing can also help with strawberry skin because soaking your skin opens up your pores, allowing impurities to be removed more easily.

2. No scratching: Be gentle with hair removal

Since strawberry skin often results from shaving, it's advisable to try alternative methods of hair removal. Have you ever tried waxing or sugaring, for example? If those are not your preference, follow these tips when shaving: Use fresh, sharp razor blades, clean your razor regularly, and use shaving cream. The drier the shave, the higher the chance of irritating your skin.

3. Peel good, baby: Use regular exfoliation

You should definitely incorporate exfoliation into your beauty routine if you want to combat strawberry skin. Regularly exfoliating the affected areas can help remove dead skin cells and make your skin smoother. You can use a gentle exfoliating product or an exfoliating glove. Our tip: The nevernot Peeling Solution from our SOS-Skincare series contains AHA and PHA acids and gently and effectively exfoliates. This chemical peel removes the top layer of skin particularly gently and does not cause micro-injuries to the skin, while also penetrating deeply into the pores and hair follicles.

4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Moisturize your skin

After exfoliating, it's time for moisturization. Dry skin promotes clogged pores, so make sure to keep your arms and legs well moisturized. Moisturizing lotions or creams containing urea, lactic acid, or salicylic acid are particularly effective. If you like an extra glow, we recommend nevernot SOS-Skin Oil. Thanks to Ashwagandha, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Along with vitamin E and Aloe Vera, it provides your skin with the care it deserves.

5. SPF to the max: Apply sunscreen daily

Direct exposure to the sun without adequate protection increases not only your risk of skin cancer but also exacerbates skin irritations. You should wear sunscreen with SPF 50, at least SPF 30, daily (even in winter).

6. Silky & smooth: Avoid scratchy clothing

Your clothing also plays a role in strawberry skin. Tight, synthetic, or scratchy fabrics can irritate the skin. Instead, opt for loose-fitting clothing made of natural, breathable materials such as linen or cotton to minimize irritation. Or finally, wear those cute shorts that are surely waiting for you in your wardrobe ;)
